- Thanks Joe. Your account caused me to recall the early 1950's when my mother would
- take me with her into NYC from Morgan, NJ (On the banks of the Cheesequake Creek)
- via the following adventurous route: CNJ passenger train from Morgan (Yes, Morgan
- had a passenger shed) to Perth Amboy, then a vigorous (My Mother was aerobic
- before aerobic was in vogue) walk down to the Tottenville ferry. (We took the bus
- when it rained since the trolleys were discontinued on Smith Street) I still recall
- the guys who used to play and sing aboard the ferry on the short ride to
- Tottenville. Then the Rat Trap (SI Rapid Transit) ride to St. George (Best part of
- that ride was looking out the front of the car at signals, etc.). NYC ferry to
- South Ferry (Battery Park). IRT subway up 7th Avenue to Macy's. A couple of
- hours of shopping and then the reverse process. It's been over forty years since
- those days :-<, I wonder if the current generation of kids will have similar
- recollections of trips to "the mall"? Oh yes, lest I forget; when we were
- particularly flush, we'd take the train ALL THE WAY to Liberty Street terminal in
- Jersey City.
