  15. Our library is a U.S. Superintendent of Documents 
  16. Depository.  The rules of the game say that outdated
  17. USGS topos are supposed to be disposed of when a new
  18. edition is issued.  So older topos are rare, at least
  19. at depository libraries.  Of course, there is nothing 
  20. I know of to prevent these older maps from being 
  21. placed in a non-depository collection.  For example,
  22. I found many old maps available at the California
  23. room in the State Library in Sacramento last year.

  25. I would be certain that the most topos ever issued are
  26. in the Library of Congress or the National Archives, 
  27. or both.  Of course, you have to go to Washington to 
  28. use them....
