- This Sunday, the Vintage Train pulled by steam loco K153 ran a trip out
- to Eltham from Melbourne for the local Eltham Festival. It then ran two
- shuttle trips back to Heidelberg for us locals.
-
- On its second trip, someone threw a tin of blue paint over the loco,
- probably from one of the overbridges. The loco was running tender first,
- and the tender copped most of the paint, right over the right-hand side.
-
- Vandalism to the local electrics is one thing (and their is plenty of it
- on the Hurstbridge line), but I cannot possibly understand the mentality
- of anyone who would deliberately set out to damage a beautifully restored
- steam locomotive while it is carrying hundreds of waving, enthusiastic
- passengers having lots of fun. I bet the paint cost more than the fare!
-
- That happening ruined what had been a really great day for myself and
- many other steam fans. It was wonderful to watch and listen as the train
- laboured over the hills near Eltham that the electrics hardly slow down for!
-
- It has been several years since steam last ventured to Eltham, and now I
- doubt whether the ARHS will be very keen on letting it ever come back.
