- You should definately install a high-quality low-pass filter,
- the kind you would get at a ham radio store. That is a very
- easy thing to do. After you install it, call your neighbor
- and arrange a time when you both can test if the RFI is still
- a problem. The important thing is to work with your neighbor
- on the problem, and let him/her know that you are serious
- about solving the problem.
-
- Make sure that your coax cable is good and installed properly.
- You should be using high-quality RG-8 (thick stuff) cable.
- The stuff at Radio Shack is NOT adequate.
-
- You should also have a good ground system. Your CB
- should be grounded to an 8-foot copper rod driven
- into the ground. The CB should be connected to the
- rod via a thick copper wire. (braid from the RG-8 works
- fine)
-
- Have you checked the SWR on your antenna? If it's an older
- antenna, there may be something wrong with the antenna. Next
- I would raise the height of the antenna if possible.
-
- Just between you and me ... are you using a linear? The cheap
- CB linears are a sure ticket to RFI and a few other problems.
- Disconnect it.
-
- As a last resort, you can get ferrite RF attenuators at Radio Shack.
- They have the kind that snap on to wires. You can put one on the
- telephone cord, the keyboard cord, etc. Don't spend the money
- on this until you try the other things above.
