- Unto Lord Elwyn of Thornbury comes greetings from Lady Juelda of
- Salisbury.
- .
- In a discussion between you and Lord Arval, about asking groups to hold a
- minimum number of events you drew on your observations as a member of
- the Barony of Lonely Tower. I was surprised at some of your observations
- and hope that you don't mind if I make a few of my own here.
- I have been a member of the Barony since 1983 (when it was still a
- Shire) and a founding member of the Canton of Afon Ddraig.
- In going back over my MEWS (Calontir's Kingdom newsletter) since 1989 I
- have found that the Barony and Canton have put on between three and four
- Kingdom events per year, and yes that does include 12th night. We have
- *always* done the Royal University session when it rotates though to our
- time, and we *always* do Crown Tourney when it also rotates through our
- time, and I am sure we will do Coronation when it is our time. The last
- RUSH session for our rotation was done at Long's Landing in Council
- Bluffs with Tomekii and Fiona on the Falcon thrones, and was our first
- "camping RUSH". ON a general note the Canton has never done a 12th
- night. We have had a person who lives in the Canton autocrat it, but it
- was as a Baronial event. The Canton *has* however done a Crown Tourney
- that was sponsored by the Barony (before we lost the Incipient status).
- .
- You made the statement:
- >What happened? Sir Rorik Galbraith, our Baron, became King of Calontir.
- Suddenly, a large part of the Baronial populace HAD to play on a Kingdom
- level."
- .
- I would like to point out somethings. Yes, I do believe that more members
- of the Barony started to travel during Rorik and Morgana's reign. But
- not because they *HAD* to. The people who made up retinue for their
- reign were half Barony and half Canton and were people who had *already*
- been traveling to out of town events. One of the reasons why we were
- asked to BE retinue. Many of our members travel to Forgotten Sea (a
- three hour drive) or to Coeur d'Ennui (a 2 to 3 hour drive) as well as
- Mag Mor (a one hour drive). We also have had at least *THREE* Kingdom
- officers living in the Barony and Canton and that alone requires some
- traveling.
- .
- You also said:
- >A vital, active group is likely to be not only able, but willing to show
- off its talents to the Kingdom at large.
- .
- I agree, but dosn't showing off our talents mean more than just doing
- Kingdom events? Many times groups are limited to doing Kingdom events by
- money (or lack there of) and by people willing to autocrat.
- .
- We will, I hope agree to disagree about if the Canton is a "vital" part
- of the Barony. I believe it is, and would discuss it with you someplace
- other than a International echo, if you wish.
- .
- I guess my point behind all of this was to show that the Barony has been
- more active than you or your Lady Wife might have known.
- .
- I will get down off my soap box now and thank you for your time.
- .
