- I only know one motorcyclist who's ever ridden to Tuk. His name is Phil
- Funnel, and he used to own the BMW dealership in Vancouver B.C.
-
- Because I was still young and more foolish in those days, and was
- contemplating a crack at the cross-Canada record, I talked to phil
- several times about some of his long distance trips, including one to
- Tierra del Fuego and one to Tuk.
-
- He did the trip to Tuk in winter time, because that was the only time of
- year that a road is open to Tuk, across the ice. He took his BMW, an
- extra battery (for his suit), and more experience and competence than any
- ten riders I have ever met.
-
- He said he'd never been so cold in his life, and that he would under no
- conceivable conditions do it again.
-
- The story - from Vancouver to Tierra del Fuego to Tuk and back was
- written up in the January, March and June 1979 editions of Cycle Canada.
-
-
- If you're really serious, e-mail me and I'll make photocopies for you.
