- Either you have no idea what head injuries can do to a person, or you
- would really like to mislead people into thinking that a helmets are nice,
- but not important (it may not be what you meant, but it's what comes across).
-
- You can smash up your legs pretty bad before it comes to never walking again.
- I saw a show on teenagers with head injuries (incurred during various
- activities, mostly bicycle accidents), and all of them were in wheelchairs,
- some with no hope of ever taking a step. Their legs were fine, they just
- couldn't control them. One of them could not keep track of time, or even
- the order in which events occured. Another could understand people, but
- needed someone to suggest words to him so that he could talk (he could not
- access his vocabulary properly). These people could not function normally,
- not because the nature of their accidents was so severe, but that they were
- unlucky enough to get hurt in the wrong body part. Your brain is encased in
- a some big bones, and for good reason, but when it comes up against pavement
- or a car bumper or a mailbox, it is by no means tough.
-
- Head injuries are no joke, and dismissing them is doing a great
- disservice to those who need just one more excuse not to wear a helmet.
