- -> The figures only apply to YOU if YOU are BOTH the average cager AND

-
- I got my motorcycle license at 13. You could do that in Arkansas back
- in the early '70s. I had to take the military rider safety course to
- get my "green card" to ride on the nearby air base, and read everything
- I could find on riding. Then I spent countless hours practicing both on
- the dirt and on the street. In the next three years I racked up
- probably 25,000 miles; not bad for a kid.
-
- I swapped the bike for a Mustang when I was 16. Easier to get girls
- with, y'know. But I never developed the confidence in a cage that I had
- on a bike. Even now, with ten years of autocross and a couple of comp
- schools to my credit, I *still* don't feel all that competent in a car.
- The connection between me and the road is blurred by a ton and a half of
- steel, rubber bushings, and weird steering geometry.
-
- The sad fact is, I'm still a better rider than driver. Or maybe it's a
- happy fact. The weather's nice, looks like time for a ride...
