- I don't think it had anything to do with the tin. I think it was just
- bad luck. Incredibly bad luck. Almost unbelievably bad luck.

- There is a chance of finding an artifact like Frostbrand just lying
- on the floor (quite a small chance). I think this is probably what
- happened. It was lying on the ground, a kobold found it before you
- did, and picked it up and used it. I think that's the unluckiest
- death I've heard of in a long time.

- If you'd managed to kill the kobold, you would have felt very lucky
- at finding a great artifact on level 1. But such is life in
- nethack.
