- After 1C-3C-X, 3S would probably show a 5+ suit in a decent hand. North will either
- pass or raise to 4S. With the alert, North knows that 3S is just a simple preference
- into one of his suits and that South might very well have relatively short spades.
- He is not entitled to use this information and thus 4C is an infraction.
