- |It seems to me that opener is not strong enough to reverse and you are also in
- |murky water saying 3C is still gf. I would have thought that it should start
-
- (Here is where you wish you were playing relays ...)
-
- I thought the idea of 2/1 was that shape could be shown without having to
- worry about strength. With that in mind, I might bid like this:
-
- 1D 2C
- 2S 2N (1)
- 3C (2) 3D (3)
- 3H (4) 3S (5)
- 4D (6) 6C (7)
-
- (1) I would bid this way whether or not 3C is still game forcing.
- (2) This should show opener as 4-1-5-3, or perhaps 4-0-5-4 or 4-0-6-3.
- Presumably not 4-2-4-3 ...
- (3) Shape showing. Have we agreed on clubs? Probably. Could responder be
- 3-3-3-4?
- (4) Since opener has already shown at most 1 heart, this should show a void
- or a stiff ace.
- (5) cue.
- (6) now what? If clubs are trump, this should show A or K of diamonds the
- way I play. Presumably if opener wanted to play in diamonds he would
- not bid this -- he would either cue or bid 5D.
- (7) where are opener's points? Assuming he has at least 13, then in the
- worst case he has a stiff ace and thus 9 points in diamonds/spades.
- If he has AKQ of diamonds, slam is there; same with KQ of spades and
- A of diamonds. With K of spades and AQ of diamonds slam is on a
- finesse; same with KQ of spades and KQ of diamonds. With K of spades
- and KQJ of diamonds, slam is there. All these assume minimums and
- a somewhat wasted stiff ace of hearts, and opener may well have more.
-
- (of course in reality I could see the slam being missed, esp. if the
- partnership does not have their 2/1 agreements really down cold.)
