  12. Well, I played in a California card room for the first time yesterday, at
  13. Sycuan casino in El Cajon, California.  I played 1-1-2-2 Texas Hold 'em at
  14. the 'beginners' table.  Normal rules, but no check-raising, and if you bet
  15. or raised on the turn or river, you had to bet $2 (not $1).

  17. It was definitely a beginners' table.  Dealers-in-training dealt, and there
  18. were a lot of flipped cards on the deal.  Most of the people at the table
  19. tended to stay in too long, i.e. most bets were called all the way through.
  20. Winning money was simply a matter of waiting for decent cards, and folding
  21. your second-best hands early enough.  I bought in for $40, and left with $62
  22. 2 1/2 hours later, which I guess is ok.  The rake was nasty, as there were two
  23. blinds of $1 each, which both went to the house.

  25. Previously I have played at the 4Q and Cx2 and gotten chewed up by the sharks.
  26. The quality of play was a lot worse (but I am a little better than I was then,
  27. mostly due to the net.holdem tournament, I've learned a lot!)

  29. I went on a Sat. afternoon, and the place was pretty crowded.  I'll probably
  30. be heading back soon.

  32. Other games there include 1-3 hi lo stud, and 3-6 and up reg stud, 3-6 and up
  33. texas holdem (incl. a hi-lo game or two) and something called 'kill' texas
  34. holdem (what is this?)  No omaha, no lowball, but today (11/22) they supposedly
  35. opened a whole new cardroom so maybe they will have more games now.

  37. Of course, they got bingo and a bunch of asian games and ca. aces, but who
  38. cares, right?
