- Hi, this horse sounds like he is suffering from a sore
- back. The most probable cause is that the saddle that is being
- used on him doesn't fit. A veterinary exam can determine whether
- the horse has permanent damage (lordosis) from being ridden
- in an ill-fitting saddle, and also can determine whether the
- horse is currently suffering from soreness. A lay off of several
- days to a week is needed to begin the healing process for a sore
- back, after that slow work under a properly fitted saddle with
- a careful rider will get him over it completely. It will take
- as long as six months of work under a saddle that does not hurt
- him to make the symptoms disappear completely, however you will
- see a lessoning of his apprehension pretty quickly after switching
- to a saddle that fits. Check with your vet about saddle fit if
- you have a question.
