  31. The outer layer of a big bale left outside will weather. My horses always
  32. leave the outer layer and attack the good stuff in the middle, so I've
  33. never had any problem with digestive problems or colic from big bales. In
  34. fact, the big bales look a little strange with a doughnut hole in the
  35. middle! They eat from the inside out. There is definitely more waste with
  36. a big bale than with small square bales. For the ponies I fork hay off the 
  37. inside big bales so there is no ruined hay on those.
