- The outer layer of a big bale left outside will weather. My horses always
- leave the outer layer and attack the good stuff in the middle, so I've
- never had any problem with digestive problems or colic from big bales. In
- fact, the big bales look a little strange with a doughnut hole in the
- middle! They eat from the inside out. There is definitely more waste with
- a big bale than with small square bales. For the ponies I fork hay off the
- inside big bales so there is no ruined hay on those.
