- The first time I put him on Rebound, there was such a dramatic difference that
- I couldn't believe it!!!!. I'm glad someone else got the same result.

- I'm glad you mentioned this as this is my pet theory for Bub's heaves.
- Bub is the second horse that I have owned who developed heaves. Both lived
- primarily at my parent's house, which is situated on a cliff <2 miles away from
- and above a major highway. Both horses were fairly old (>18yrs) when they
- developed heaves.

- My vet strongly suggested a complete pellet, but Bub *hates* pellets.
- She wasn't aware of Rebound. Also, she suggested MSM which another vet had
- been successful with and I bought that via catalog, with no profit to the
- practice. On the other hand, I know a practice in the area that *would* stoop
- to such measures, but basically I think that heaves is just one of those things
- where there isn't a terrible amount of research going on and there are no new
- developments in treatment, and vets would rather spend time on more acute
- illnesses. They tend to view heaves as a management problem rather than a
- treatable illness.

- I was under the impression that as a result of the overload of histimines from
- the allergic reaction, the alveoli in the lungs are damaged irreparably. In a
- less severe case, the efficiency of the healthy portion of the lung can be
- increased to compensate for the damage, but a severely damaged lung can never
- recover. Am I mistaken??? Can I dare to hope that I can rehabilitate Bub
- somewhat???? Has anyone out there been able to return a seriously heavey horse
- to work??? Let me know!!!
-
- Thanks for the input!
