-
- Underlining is used as a structural support for the bodice fabric.
- Satin is structurally not as sound as, say, plain weave: all those
- floats on the nice shiny surface mean that there aren't many weft
- threads interlacing with the warp. (For this reason, it's more
- important than usual to pay attention to the grain when sewing satin.)
- The pattern is recommending the underlining of the bodice to allow
- the bodice to hold up the skirt without stretching.

-
- I would use a plain-weave non-slippery fabric (high-quality white
- muslin, prewashed, ironed, maybe starched ) for the underlining.

-
- After basting the underlining to the bodice pieces, work with them
- as if they were a single piece of fabric.

- Good Luck!
