  15. 95% of the time you will be entering Santa Cruz Harbor on a reach, so you
  16. should be fairly maneuverable.  The main trick is to come in under a full
  17. head of steam and ride the waves.

  19. There is a large kelp bed off the harber to the East.  You want to avoid
  20. that, then make a kind of S turn and approach the harbor entrance from
  21. the right side.

  23. Another hint:  Dredging in the winter is pretty ad hoc.  The harbor patrol
  24. does not mark the shoals in the winter--so stay in the middle of the channel.
