- 95% of the time you will be entering Santa Cruz Harbor on a reach, so you
- should be fairly maneuverable. The main trick is to come in under a full
- head of steam and ride the waves.

- There is a large kelp bed off the harber to the East. You want to avoid
- that, then make a kind of S turn and approach the harbor entrance from
- the right side.

- Another hint: Dredging in the winter is pretty ad hoc. The harbor patrol
- does not mark the shoals in the winter--so stay in the middle of the channel.
