- To steer a depth curve you follow a contour line on your chart by using your
- depth sounder to maintain a constant depth. Very useful in low visibility
- conditions.

- Also useful is if you don't get a good look at the number on a bouy or some
- other marker is to verify that the depth along your projected track matches
- up to what you see the bottom as being. I have been saved a couple of times
- from errors in reading a bouy by noting that the depth sounder was not
- returning numbers which agreed with the chart.
