- It might be, but I'd be inclined to check out the rest of the fuel
- system. I've seen these symptoms when people used portable tanks and
- didn't open the vent. I've also seen these symptoms from clogged
- fuel filters (filter is located on the fuel pump on your motor), from
- clogged fuel pickups (some have a filter on the pickup foot), and water
- in the gas (which didn't reach the fuel pickup when the boat was level
- at idle, but did under power with the bow up and the fuel sloshing).

- It's generally agreed that an I/O-style fuel filter/water separator is
- a good thing on an outboard, although you _must_ change it regularly to
- keep from depriving the engine of fuel and thus oil.

- You didn't mention whether you are still advancing the throttle lever
- when it dies, or whether you have left the throttle fixed for a few
- seconds. Since the throttle linkage moves the timing base, you might
- have problems with the wiring there. The insulation might be chafed
- through, causing it to ground when you open the throttle, or the wire
- itself may have corroded internally (do you run in salt water?). Also,
- there may be a bad connection where the wire connects to the pin of
- one of those rubber wiring connectors.
