- Hehehe, can't resist a dig... I went out Saturday to "check on my new stereo"
- and try out the self-steer I designed... I guess could have checked the stereo
- in my yard, but the water just adds something. Anyway, it was sunshine and
- about 35 deg F when I left, and by the time I got on the water it was cloudy
- and winds about 10-15 knots gusting. I had to anchor to rig my sails and do a
- few other rigging changes, then I sailed down the lake, and by the time I
- started back, visibility was down to 100-200 feet because of snow, and the
- lines were freezing on the deck. The wind was good, though, and I had a good
- sail (no sarcasm). My first mate (my dog) wasn't as impressed, but she always
- loves to go.
-
- Oh yeah, I found that Johnson outboards have to have gas in the tank to run.
- (How embarrassing.)
-
- BTW, the self-steer seems to work OK (I tested it with a DPDT momentary
- switch), but it doesn't have a LOT of power. Right now I'm using a couple of
- levers to make it move the tiller, I'm thinking of going to a rack and pinion
- system. (This is a self steer I'm building myself using a windsheild wiper
- motor, if you missed earlier discussions about it.)
