- Yes, fluorite lenses (or more correctly lenses with a fluorite element)
- work in the same way - by reducing chromatic aberation. Calcium fluorite
- is a crystal rather than a glass and fluorite elements are said to be a
- little less rugged than conventional glass elements. I have two lenses
- with fluorite elements and have had no problems. Though fluorite gives
- better color correction, it is significantly more expensive (especially
- in large sizes) than ED glass. Note that there are a number of different
- ED glasses and apochromatic (chromatic aberation "free") lens systems, some
- of which work better than others.
