- When I replaced the rear brake shoes on my 69 bus (same 46mm size) I
- bought a crescent wrench from Orchard Supply Hardware for ~$60 and a
- four foot length of galvanize steel pipe. Using the pipe as a cheater
- off the end of the wrench the nut came off and went back on easily.

- There is an adaptor that many VW shops carry. It is a thick piece of
- cast alloy with a 46mm socket hole on one side and a 1/2 socket hole
- on the other:

- None of the shops I visited had them in stock when I needed one so I
- sprung for the cresent wrench.
