  20. Speaker Builder magazine has published updated horn designs.  
  21. I've heard Bruce's design.  It's quite decent.  Did a great
  22. job on the audiophile record, Bob & Ray.  Man, you could really
  23. *see* that fly zoom round the room.  Full back and forth depth
  24. as well as the usual left to right.  The height was perfectly
  25. rendered too as it was on the Stereophile test CD.

  27. Looking thru the latest guide to hi-end components the closest
  28. I could come to 99db were:

  41. I was surprised that the mega-buck systems are so sensitive.
  42. Is this because they have so much square footage that they
  43. are able to move a lot of air for not a lot of watts?  
  44. For the curious, the Infinity IRS V has a sensitivity of 90db.

  46. There were a surprising number of speakers with sensitivity ratings of 90db
  47. or better.  So there's hope for you yet, Peter.

  49. At the other end of the efficiency spectrum, I think the Stax 
  50. still holds the record at, get this, 76db for the model
  51. ELS-8X (Max rec spl is 110db.  But with what power station
  52. we'd like to know).  Maybe the plasma speaker from France
  53. that appeared a few years back is more inefficient.
