- We have two Richardson animation stands with Acme cameras
- and one Richardson that takes a bolex. We have one Oxberry and a
- number of single frame motors for bolexes for folks that want
- to do pixillation or 3D animation. We have a rotoscoping prism and
- ]a few other special attachments (like a vertical pan bar). We can't
- afford 35mm film either, and everything we shoot is in 16mm.
-
- IMHO the way single frame video is done on a vcr is plain
- nuts. Yeah, I know it works, but it's still nuts. We do single
- frame video to video disc. Pricey but reliable.
-
- I have an adventurous graduate student who can't afford to
- make movies, either. So he bought a Super 8 movie camera and uses
- that for both animation and live action. Admittedly, he has a
- contact at a top of the line film to video transfer company, but
- it can be done. As you point out, this approach requires
- patience, but mosty folks can afford it.
-
- In my (10 week) class students have to buy one roll of
- 16mm film about $25. And pay $10.00 for in house processing.
- That gets them an almost 3 minute sample reel for $35.00. Not
- bad.
-
- I require no textbooks but suggest that students buy and
- read _The Animation Book_ by Kit Laybourne for technique and
- _Experimental Animation_ by Russet and Starr for History, Aesthetics and
- an excellent survey of what folks other than disney have done
- with animation.
