- I disagree with you completely here. A university's reputation is an extremely
- important thing when it comes to getting a job after university. If an
- employer has heard good things about your school, and has had personal
- experience with graduates from your school, they will be much more likely to
- consider an application from you. For all I know, Cape Breton University may
- have a higher quality of education than the University of Waterloo, but you
- won't see world class companies (eg Microsoft Corp has hired more graduates
- of Waterloo than from any other university) hiring many graduates from CBU.
- So even if CBU offered a better engineering program than Waterlo, I wouldn't
- want to go there because their reputation will not help me afterwards.
-
- Reputation also help in attracting better profs, and better students, which
- hopefully will lead to a higher quality of education.
-
- The survey was attempting to rate the universities on a wide basis and not
- simply on quality of education alone. There are many points one has to
- consider when choosing a university, and the Maclean's survey attempted to
- address as many of them as possible.
-
- Sorry, no university bashing today, I've got work to do. I've got to impress
- a possible future employer.
