  21. Well, certainly the benefits are better in the public sector,
  22. at least in terms of days off.  At most private companies, we get
  23. about 8-10 holidays per year.  In some, a couple of these may
  24. be floaters, so that if you want to take off Martin Luther King
  25. Day or Veterans Day, you can use a floater for it. However, in
  26. the public sector, they tend to get all these holidays off. I'd 
  27. guess that they get 5 more holidays per year than those of us
  28. in the private sector.  I'd be willing to pay the folks in
  29. the public sector more in exchange for more days worked
  30. per year.

  32. Part of this, I think, is that the heads of the public employees'
  33. unions tend to use emotional, misleading arguments to make
  34. sure they get all possible holidays off:  "What, we don't all
  35. get Veteran's Day off?  This shows you don't care about veterans.
  36. What, you think we shouldn't all get Martin Luther King Day off?
  37. You bigot!"  And on and on, ignoring the fact that in the private
  38. sector most of us have to chose which of several holidays we want
  39. off: I can take of Martin Luther King Day or Veterans Day, but not
  40. both.
