- Hi folks,
-
- I need some advice about the tax implications of contributing to
- a charitable organization outside the United States.
-
- I live & work in the United States (not a citizen). I was recently
- approached by an organization which does excellent work in education
- of poor children in India. I would like to donate a substantial sum
- (about $5000, substantial to me at least) to this organization, and
- want to know if this is tax-deductible.
-
- If it is not directly tax-deductible, is there any other way I can
- make a tax-deductible donation to this organization ??
-
- As far as I can tell, contributions to foreign organizations are not
- tax-deductible. However, the person who represents the charity says
- that my contribution will be deductible.
-
- Please let me know which one of us is correct, and why.
-
- Thank you very much.
- Prem!
