-
- First of all you can deduct qualified charitible contributions only
- if you itemize your deductions. If not, there's no need to read any
- further.
-
- The IRS decides which charitible organizations are qualified. One
- easy way is to find out if they have applied to the IRS to be
- certified, and have been certified as a qualified charitible
- organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
-
- If not, it is possible they qualify, but probably not.
-
- Many charitible organization do work outside of the United States,
- but have an organization within the United States which is a 501(c)(3)
- orgabization and collects and distributes funds. For example,
- Project Hope, ORT, CARE, ... are international charitible
- organizations whose US collection/distribution organization is
- qualified.
-
- It is possible that this organization has a qualified US
- organization to which you can send your donation. Get in writing
- form them some proof they are a qualified 501(c)(3) organization.
