  12. My son (3 1/2 years old) had a checkup recently, and the pediatrician
  13. discovered that he has a hole in one of his eardrums.  He says it
  14. was probably left from when Jordan's tubes fell out.  Jordan got
  15. tubes put in when he was six months old.  I don't know when they fell
  16. out, but they told me at the time the tubes would stay in 6 to 12 
  17. months.  At his 2-year checkup, the dr. said they were still in there
  18. but they looked like they were ready to fall out.  So the tubes
  19. have probably been gone for at least a year, and Jordan still has a
  20. hole in his eardrum.  We're supposed to go back in February to check
  21. to see if the hole has healed over, and if it hasn't, Jordan has to
  22. get a patch on his eardrum.

  24. So, has anyone else had this happen?  What does patching the eardrum
  25. entail?  Does it require anesthesia, and if so, can it be done under
  26. a local?  Is the patch permanent?
