  11. My midwife told me the best way to avoid an episiotomy was massaging
  12. the perineum daily with some sort of oil (I can't remember exactly
  13. what kind but obviously it was non-petroleum), gently stretching the
  14. area as you massage. It seems to have worked for me--my second baby 
  15. weighed 9-1/2 pounds and had a very large head, but I had no problems 
  16. getting him out without an episiotomy.
