  12. When my son Fergus was about 3 months old he was an object of fascination
  13. for his older sister, Emily (about 2 years old at the time).  I'll never
  14. forget one foul winter evening when she was sitting next to a carefully
  15. propped up Fergus on the sofa.  He gave a little cough which Emily obviously
  16. felt needed some commentary for her.  However, being unable to say anything
  17. as complicated as "Oh, look, Fergus has just coughed" all she could manage
  18. was "Fer cough" ... try saying it out loud ;)

  20. Our great mistake was to laugh which made her repeat her joke again, which
  21. made us laugh all the more, and so on and on.  It ain't easy being a parent.
