- I don't have experience with this exact situation, but I do have experience
- with young children and dental problems. My advice is to have your family
- dentist refer you to a pediatric dentist for a consultation, regardless of
- whether the teeth turn gray within 4 weeks. A pediatric dentist specializes
- in children's dentistry, and should be best able to evaluate whether there
- was any damage, and discuss your options with you. In the worst case, s/he
- will recommend that the teeth be removed, although it may be possible to
- apply ceramic caps for cosmetic purposes. Keep in mind that even if your son
- loses these teeth, the permanent teeth will grow in by age 6 or 7, and there
- is very little danger of other dental problems (like other teeth shifting).
- Also, since the roots are shallow, these teeth can be removed in the office
- with novicain (sp?), which is safer than general anesthesia.
-
- We have had very good experiences with a pediatric dentist during some difficult
- dental times, and I highly recommend the option. I was also surprised that
- ours was actually cheaper than our regular dentist (I had expected pediatric
- dentistry to be a very pricey specialty).
