- What!? AAA, in every corner of America, sells AmEx checks in
- DMark, FFranc, and some others, I forget. Those are the two that
- I have purchased myself. They charge no commission for their
- members, but the rate isn't as good as you would get on the
- same day at a bank for the checks - but then you pay commissions.

- Hard currency costs much more than checks - you pay higher commissions
- and get worse rates. The explanation I heard for this is that
- banks can simply cancel the traveler's checks and somehow get the
- value for them, but the cash has to get handled, stored, etc. which
- is more costly.
