- Hello, it is P. Gerard again. I want to again reemphasize the importance of
- building a strength base before attempting any jumping drills. As someone noted
- earlier, the use of ankle weights can hyperextend your knees. It is crucial
- that you slowly build up your strength through a weight training program, or
- you run the risk of severe injury. Just talk to anyone who has ever blown out a
- knee or sprained an ankle. Secondly, I ran across the address for the Strength
- Shoe, something I mentioned earlier:
-
- Strength Footwear Inc.
- 2701 Independence St.
- Metairie, Louisiana 70006
- 1-800-451-JUMP
- In Louisiana 456-9103
- This address is as of 1989. The patent no. in the U.S. is #3.739.500, and in
- Canada the patent no. is #979641. Lastly, if you research the book "How to Jump
- Higher" by Peterson and Hrodowski(spelling?) you will find a section concerning
- the use of the heavy rope, more commonly referred to as the Ultra-rope.
-
- Research the 1988 February edition of the magazine "Volleyball Monthly" and you
- will find an article by Karla Wolters concerning the use of the Ultra-rope. I
- have three addresses that may be beneficial to you:
-
- Spalding Sport Rope Spalding Sport Rope Ultra-Rope
- 825 Riverside Ave. #2 P.O. Box 8433 Garney Inc.
- Paso Robles, CA 93446 Grand Rapids, MI 49518 5025 28th St., S.E.
- 805-239-7777 1-800-447-7770 Grand Rapids, MI 49512
- Fax 805-23-9016 616-942-6705 or
- 1-800-23-Ultra
- James T. Maher, M.D.,P.C., designed the weighted Ultra-rope. He is a physician
- in Grand Rapids, MI.. Canada's University of Ottawa, led by experiments
- conducted by Professor John Reardon, M.D.,Ph.D., and Sean Egan, M.D., has
- researched the heavy rope extensively. Anyone interested in improving their
- vertical leap, stamina, and explosive power should take the heavy rope and
- Strength Shoe into consideration when designing a workout schedule.
-
- I would appreciate any feedback on the above message or previous messages.
-
- Thanks,
- P. Gerard
