- The procedure is called Phresis. Blood is taken from one arm and passes
- thru a centrifuge where the blood is separated platelets are sent a bag and
- the rest is returned to the other arm. The process takes on average two
- hours. You can do this every three days. The platelets are used for cancer
- and leukemia research as well as for hemophiliacs. I started to donate about
- three years ago. I donate about once a month, at the local Red Cross center.
-
- The bad part about donating is after being stuck by needles and tubes in my
- arms, I always get an itch on my nose! :-)
-
- Where can you do this for money? I like donating, but times are tough and if
- certain hospitals and centers are paying for it I'll consider that.
