- This is obliquely covered in the FAQ where it talks about
- multiple circuits in a box. If the two boxes are on different
- circuits, it's contrary to code (or, at least, the inspectors
- will get nasty) to connect parts of them together. Even if just
- the "ground" wires. The problem being, for example, that disconnecting
- the 3-wire circuit to work on something kills the ground on the other
- circuit too. And *migh* electrocute you while you're working on it...

- It'd probably be more effective to simply add a new box & outlet
- fed from the 3-prong receptacle. Why bother disturbing the old
- receptacle and wire? It might start falling apart on you
