- Stella....We installed hardwood floors (Bruce Plank) on a concrete slab over a
- year ago. The wood floors were installed throughout the house, including the
- kitchen, bathrooms, dining and family room areas.
- So far, the floors are holding up extraordinarily well. We opted for the
- polyurethane factory-installed finish. Besides vacuuming once a week, I try to
- wipe up water/food/grease spills around the sink & stove as soon as they
- occur. And use a sponge mop slighlty dampened with Murphy's Oil soap to clean
- off dirt residue & dust. We have two live-in Newfoundland dogs, plus
- another 1/2 dozen that rotate in and out as house dogs. The floors still look
- terrific, and the dog hair is easier to pick up from the bare floor than
- from carpeting..
-
- Our installer tested the dampness of the concrete before apply the mastic. A
- 24-hour test showed were any damp spots might be. He didn't find any (house
- was built 20 years ago & the concrete is "cured" by now!), but did find some
- uneven areas that needed filling-in with concrete patch to assure a level
- floor.
-
- I say, Go For It!
