- NEW BOOKS CONFERENCE-
-
- Noam Chomsky, WHAT UNCLE SAM REALLY WANTS. Odonian Press, Box 7776,
- Berkeley CA 94707. 510 524 3143. 111pgs. $5.
-
- A great synopsis of Chomsky's work, covering US foreign policy
- from the end of World War II to 1992. This is a great introduction to
- Chomsky for those who have never been exposed to any "Alternative"
- viewpoint. It is also a small lightweight book that is cheap and easy
- to mail. (I personally have bought and mailed hundreds of these books.
- Activists can sell them at "tabling" events just to get the invaluable
- information out to the public).

- A Collection of Biographies, CAN'T JAIL THE SPIRIT- POLITICAL
- PRISONERS IN THE U.S.. Editorial El Coqui Publishers, 1671 N.
- Claremont, Chicago, IL 60647, 312-342-8027. 207pgs. $12.
-
- A moving book about the political prisoners in the U.S., in their
- own words. Very informative about the prison system, itself. Many of
- the prisoners are victims of the F.B.I. Cointelpro efforts (they were
- framed) and sentenced very harshly for crimes they did not commit.
- This book also contains all the prisoners addresses and encourages
- people to publicize their plight and write to them.

-
- Bill Cane, CIRCLES OF HOPE- BREATHING LIFE & SPIRIT INTO A WOUNDED
- WORLD. Orbis Books, Maryknoll, NY 10545-0308. 150 pgs. $10.
-
- A beautiful book which recognizes the depths of the world's
- problems and offers practical suggestions on what to do about them.
- Very inspiring. It also includes a bibliography and networking
- information.
-
- Pete Brewton, THE MAFIA,CIA & GEORGE BUSH- THE UNTOLD STORY OF
- AMERICA'S GREATEAST FINANCIAL DEBACLE. S.P.I. Books/Shapolsky
- Publishers, Inc., 136 West 22nd Street, New York, NY 10011. 212
- 633-2022. 418pgs. $22.95.
-
- Simon & Schuster gave Pete Brewton a $100,000. advance to write
- this book, which is very well researched, but they reneged on the
- contract and refused to publish it before the election. It just
- reached the bookstores this week and unfortunately it is almost too
- close to the election time for it to have a major impact. His thesis
- is that the Mafia, the C.I.A. as well as some of the most powerful and
- richest people in the country are guilty of looting the Savings and
- Loans. I wanted to get this news out as soon as possible, but I must
- admit that I just bought my copy today and haven't had time to read
- the whole thing yet. I did hear him interviewed on KPFA and I must
- say that all my research and his interview lead me to believe that
- this book is an invaluable resource to point out the reals criminals
- and corruption within this country.
