  65. I just tested the memory usage of a monochrome VXT2000 with 16Mb RAM by 
  66. starting the memory-meter and then logging into a DECstation 5000/200 by xdm. 
  67. I used mwm (1.1.3) as supplied by DEC. After logging in and starting the screen
  68. clock, session manager, xconsole and one dxterm I had 7828 Mb free.
  69. I then loaded a gif picture onto the root with xv, and went down to 7634 Mb 
  70. free. As a further test I started 4 dxterms, one xterm, xdvi and ghostscript
  71. simultaneously and ended up with 7268 Mb free. All this should have worked
  72. on a 12 Mb box too. There is no problem at all with the response either, though
  73. the local window manager is slightly faster than using a remote manager. Are you
  74. sure that the terminals are correctly configured and that they are running
  75. the 1.1 version of the VXT software? My box get all its fonts by LAT, perhaps
  76. TFTP uses more memory?

  78. As you can guess I am happy with the hardware and software. Less so with the
  79. way DEC sold me the thing - somehow they forgot to mention one needs an 
  80. expansion board for memory above 4 Mb, not just the memory itself... We had to
  81. pay extra to get that though the box was sold as a "complete".
