  15. I want to allow TeX to break lines after every character, without inserting  
  16. hyphenation characters (hyphens). This should only happen in a controlled  
  17. environment.

  19. The background is that I would like to print the labels of figures and  
  20. equations (if in draft mode) in the margin of a paper-to-be to make  
  21. referencing easier. This works quite well so far, but whenever labels are  
  22. longer that the margin is wide (and this is most of the time), then they just  
  23. stick into the body of the text. I would prefer it if they were broken over  
  24. several lines without hyphenation. Of course, labels do not contain spaces  
  25. and so TeX does not wrap them around even if I put them in a parbox of  
  26. appropriate width. Therefore my quest for methods to make TeX break a line  
  27. after every char as if it were a space(?).

  29. Any help greatly appreciated. And if anyone cares, I can also post my  
  30. label-macro (with or without line breaking, depending on your response).
