- The only thing about a standard mentioned in the Service Manual is:
- "MEMORY CARD INTERFACE
- Using Model TOSHIBA MEMORY CARD"
- (this is from p.4-2 of the WP-2 Service Manual under Hardware Specs)
- I don't know what "Toshiba memory card" means, but the WP-2's IC card
- connector is a 38 pin SIP spaced 1/20th inch (most SIPs and DIPs are
- 1/10th inch spacing). [SIP = Singal Inline Package]

- To build one of these buggers, you would need:
- 1) The right connector
- 2) A surface-mount 128K SRAM chip (there's not enough clearance
- for a regular sized chip)
- 3) A lithium battery
- 4) Some support circuitry for the backup battery
- 5) A casing

- Of course if you wanted to build a ROM card, use an EPROM chip and
- forget the battery. The dimmensions of the cards Radio Shack tries
- to sell are 85.4mm x 54mm x 3.2mm.

- Or you could build one with the chip hanging outside the card slot.
- This way you could use a regular SRAM, but it would be a bit
- ungainly.

- The connector shouldn't be expensive, but I'm not sure how much
- surface-mount SRAMs go for. If memory serves, regular package
- 128K CMOS SRAMs go for around $20 to $30, maybe less.
