- Sun Hardware Gurus:
-
- I have a standard Sun 16 inch color Sony Trinitron monitor attached to
- an IPC. This monitor has a problem.
-
- When the screen is blank (via xlock -blank or screenblank), a strange
- green (and more recently, blue) flickering electronic haze is visible
- on the screen. This haze is very noticible in a darkened room and less
- so in a lit room. The haze is still barely visible when the screen is
- not blank and is used in a darkened room. I have checked a bunch of
- other monitors of the same type and have none of them exhibited this
- behavior. The haze covers the whole screen, and does not appear to be
- digital in nature - I'm convinced that it's an analog element somewhere
- that is causing trouble.
-
- The behavior was off and on a few months ago so I hoped it would go
- away, but more recently, the haze appears constantly. It doesn't
- eliminate the use of the monitor, but if it is used in a darkened room,
- the flickering brightness changes are irritating.
-
- So, does anyone have any idea what's causing this behavior? I've tried
- isolating it from the other computer equipment thinking it might be a
- stray magnetic field, but this had no effect. I also tried running it
- off another electrical circuit, thinking that it might be getting bad
- electricity; this also had no effect.
-
- If you have any ideas what might be causing this behavior and how I can
- get it repaired, any and all advice is appreciated. Anybody know
- of a good monitor repair shop in the San Diego area? Unfortunately,
- the monitor is no longer under warranty.
-
- Thanks,
- mark
