  21. I have a standard Sun 16 inch color Sony Trinitron monitor attached to
  22. an IPC.  This monitor has a problem.

  24. When the screen is blank (via xlock -blank or screenblank), a strange
  25. green (and more recently, blue) flickering electronic haze is visible
  26. on the screen.  This haze is very noticible in a darkened room and less
  27. so in a lit room.  The haze is still barely visible when the screen is
  28. not blank and is used in a darkened room.  I have checked a bunch of
  29. other monitors of the same type and have none of them exhibited this
  30. behavior.  The haze covers the whole screen, and does not appear to be
  31. digital in nature - I'm convinced that it's an analog element somewhere
  32. that is causing trouble.

  34. The behavior was off and on a few months ago so I hoped it would go
  35. away, but more recently, the haze appears constantly.  It doesn't
  36. eliminate the use of the monitor, but if it is used in a darkened room,
  37. the flickering brightness changes are irritating.

  39. So, does anyone have any idea what's causing this behavior?  I've tried
  40. isolating it from the other computer equipment thinking it might be a
  41. stray magnetic field, but this had no effect.  I also tried running it
  42. off another electrical circuit, thinking that it might be getting bad
  43. electricity; this also had no effect.

  45. If you have any ideas what might be causing this behavior and how I can
  46. get it repaired, any and all advice is appreciated.  Anybody know
  47. of a good monitor repair shop in the San Diego area?  Unfortunately,
  48. the monitor is no longer under warranty.
