- Sure. Sun's big advantage is it's OS and homogeneous environment. Now they've
- taken that away and forced me to learn/maintain a new OS. Considering HP and
- others have faster hardware for less money, why should I buy the new Suns?
-
- I have nothing against learning a new interface. I've already gone from using
- a vt100, to SunView, to OpenWindows. I have a lot against being forced
- to maintain 2 versions of stuff like perl, cvs, trn, etc. Not to mention
- AutoCAD and Viewlogics software.
-
- Bottom line is I'll probably never run Solaris on my Suns. When my boss says
- "we need another machine" I'll either buy a used Sun, or a clone that runs
- 4.1.x, or bite the bullet and go with a different manufacturer.
-
- Then again, I may get 3 months free sometime and convert everything over to
- Solaris. My users would scream and shout, but I'm used to that anyway :-)
