- I am running the password authorization daemon (shadow passwords) on SunOS
- 4.1.3 without the rest of the C2 security package. This generally works fine.
-
- However, every few days, I try to log in only to get a message that the
- pwdauthd is not running. At that point, all I can do is L1-A, sync, and reboot.
-
- Now, I can work around this (I think) by running a job under cron that checks
- for pwdauthd and restarts it if it's not present. However, this is beginning
- to uncomfortably resemble A/UX; I'd rather not resort to such hacks.
-
- In case it matters, this is a Sparc 2, 16MB, almost entirely unloaded. (It is
- possible that days go by without a login. Perhaps the authd dies of
- loneliness?)
-
- Does anyone have any clue as to what's going on?
