-
- SGI does not support the lpr spooler.
-
- If you have an Indigo network, why aren't you using the system V
- spooler which comes with the Indigos (eoe2.sw.lp) and which is
- supported by the Print Manager GUI tool (part of eoe2.sw.envm). No
- administrator intervention is necessary when setting up and installing
- printers under the Print Manager.
-
- If you install Impressario, SGI's printing solution, you also get
- active printer icons in the WorkSpace desktop product, full GUI
- (PrintStatus) for up-to-the-second printer queue and engine status, a
- graphical job submittal tool which allows each user to customize how
- they print various file types (text, PostScript, images) to each
- printer on the network.
-
- Not to mention that Impressario includes a PostScript-to-bitmap filter
- which will allow you to print Color PostScript to such inexpensive
- printers as the HP LaserJets and DeskJets without needing any
- PostScript hardware -- a significant cost savings. Add to that the
- raw speed of the Impressario RIP (up to 50 times faster than a
- LaserWriter on an Indigo) and you have quite a nice solution.
