- | Can anyone provide some pointers on how to make external SCSI disks known
- | to the system (R4000 Indigo w/ Elan)? All I can find in the mound of

- | automatically recognize them. Well, it doesn't (though hinv reports their
- | existence). MAKEDEV doesn't create the devices either.
-
- The disk tool will recognize all disk drives. It won't do anything
- to set them up, unless they already have volume headers (use fx) and
- filesystems (use mkfs).
-
- If it doesn't show a disk at all, then it isn't in the hardware
- inventory (hinv), which means the OS didn't recognize it at boot
- time. If that is the case, you have problems with the SCSI ID,
- cabling, or termination, most likely.

- | If it matters, we have two 2GB (formatted) Seagate drives. I logged a call
- | with the Technical Assistance Center and was told that drives larger than
- | 1.2GB are not yet supported. Is this true?
-
- Not *officially* supported; some platforms support 1.6 GB (unformatted)
- officially. Up to 2GB work fine, and > 2GB work fine except that fx
- (due to a bug in my changes to support > 2GB drives before I had one to
- work with) won't exercise drives past the 2GB point. The max size of a
- single filesystem is 8 GB.
