-
- There is a new product we sent out at the beginning of the month. The
- program is called LanLock, and it does software metering of DOS and Windows
- applications. It comes with a 60 day trial period so you can test
- it before you purchase. it is available from ftp.uni-kl.de in the
- /pub/pc/novell directory titled lanloc11.zip. If you do not have
- FTP, I can mail you a copy in a UUencoded format.
-
- I also noticed the following message in comp.sys.novell...
-
- >I don't know of any license server applications yet. I suggested this
- >to Brightworks a couple of times, but they don't seem to see the value
- >or need for it.

-
- LanLock will let you do this. you may set up a system such that one
- centralized license server does all the work, and have a backup server
- incase your routing goes down.
-
- LanLock can limit software on the user's hard disks as well as the
- file server. It also has an optional logfile that can store usage data,
- and generate reports of software usage in minutes/hours/days for each
- application or user. And it can even tell you which applications are
- being overused, and the number of users that were not able to use
- applications.
-
- Feel free to give it a try, and send any suggestions/questions to me if
- you have them.
