- Any reasonable comparison of PC networkOSs wouldn't be complete
- without looking at Banyan Vines as well as Novell and PC/NFS. I migrated
- a large department (100 nodes) from PC/NFS to Vines in about 2 weeks and
- found that administration time was about 1/8th what it had been. Vines
- global naming (StreeTalk) makes managing 100s of users easy. Novell is
- excellent for fewer than 3 servers or 200 users. Any large network
- though is much easier to manage under Vines than anything else on the
- market. This is verified in a study by the BRG (Business Research Group)
- which looked at Banyan, Novell, LAN Manager and Pathworks. They found
- Vines networks need fewer administrators per user by a good margin.
- I manage both Sun and Vines networks (the 2 best, IMHO) and find each has
- its roll. I also find that I have much less downtime and more
- functionality (email especially) than my friends who manage Netware,
- PC/NFS, AIX and especially Mac networks.
