- Yes, I will admit you have a very strange problem. Since you still get the prob
- lem after reinstalling the system, that's very weird. Here is what I would sugg
- est. Get a program called Desktop Reset. It's by Salient and it's free. What it
- does is completely delete your desktop files on bootup. Salient claims that so
- metimes just resetting the desktop doesn't work because all the system does is
- update the existing desktop files. So if your file is corrupted, it will remain
- corrupted. Desktop Reset will delete you desktop files and force the system to
- create a new one from scatch.

- Hard Disk icons are stored on the HD driver. You may want to use Apples Disk Fi
- rst Aid (I think that's what it's called) to check your disk. But since it is y
- our hard disk icon that is being lost, I would suggest at least reinstalling th
- e drivers for the hard disk. If you can back everything up, I would suggest ref
- ormaatting your whole drive. Drastic, but guaranteed to work. Also, try to make
- sure that the drivers you are using are System 7 compatible. Some aren't, but
- mostly they only conflict with S7's virtual memory. Personally, I haven't heard
- anything about them screwing up icons.
-
- To summarize:
- 1) Try DeskTop Reset
- 2) Reinstall Hard Disk Drivers
- 3) If all else fails, reformat drive.
