- I have a PB 140 (bought it in april '92) that my spouse and I use for on-the-road
- work. We've got a ci at home. Yesterday she tells me about her day, including being
- asked "is that a POWERBOOK?" while working on it waiting for an appointment. She
- was asked if she liked it and replied "It's changed my life".
-
- She doesn't care that a new model has replaced it, or that it's not the most
- advanced PB available. She cares that it gives her all of the power of her ci at
- home, but in an on-the-road package. That is EXACTLY why we bought it!
-
- my points are:
-
- technology changes fast
- once YOUR price/performance threshold is met, and you have the need & cash, get it!
- expect anything you buy to be "worthless" in 6 months
- expect to USE anything you buy for 2-3 years
- don't worry, be productive (sorry Bobby)
-
- I've been on the bleading edge of computer technology for most of my life, and I love it.
- I never regretted getting an Osbourne I, PC XT, PC AT, Toshiba T-1000, Mac IIci, or the PB140.
- Of all those beasties, the two Macs remain in use, the others were sold to 'trailing
- edge' folk who got damn nice machines for 10-20% of what I bought 'em for. Good deal for
- them, but also for me. I got to USE them for two to three years. That ci is looking
- great after three years.
